What would you say your guys' favorite platformers would be?

I really loved Jak and Daxter. At first I thought it'd be kind of wack. But I actually loved it. Lots of challenges and skill. It was long, but good. I ended up playing it and beating it twice.

Also, have any of you heard of the new one coming in November? Ratchet and Clank? Looks cool. I think I'll snag it.

Also,I don't know if these counts, but Sonic Adventure and Earthworm Jim 2 were also my favorites.

How about you guys?

Well, I haven't played Jax & Daxter, and SA only a little (great game), so my favourites are still Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Have anyone here played Donkey Kong 64? It was a total disappointment for me. Too big and spreaded, too confuse, and the "special abilities" of the kongs were very limited.

Super Mario World (SNES/GBA) is my all-time favorite platform game.

After Rare almost single-handedly ruined 3D platform genre for me with their boring & repetitive scavenger hunt games, I've been bit weary of the genre. Until... Klonoa 2 came along.
For me, it Was the last "great" traditional platformer I've enjoyed (too bad most people ignored it), and thanks to it, now I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Sarugetchu 2 (Ape Escape 2), Super Mario Sunshine, & Blinx...

In fact, I rather plataform games to fighters, but since most plataforms games have been out of my range lately I have been forced to play fighters.

Ninja Gaiden series (I know the NES/SNES and the Megadrive/Genesis one, are they more??)

Rod & Cathy (I think of it as plataform and not as a beat 'em up

3 wonders

Super Mario bros lost levels

Megaman 3, Megaman X

and to put it simple... most of the crew of the NES and PC-Engine plataform games.

ghouls 'n ghosts for the snes.
i am still disgustingly addicted to that game. it is one of the most challenging platformers ever. i like ghosts 'n goblins too, but its randomized enemies were a little hard.

Wouldn't Gunstar Heroes, the Contra games, and the like be considered side scrolling shooters (or just shooters, for that matter)? I have a hard time putting them in the same genre as Sonic or Mario.

Anyways, my favorite platformers are:

All Mario games
All Sonic games (except 3d Blast...blech)
Earthworm Jim 1 & 2
Quackshot
The Lion King
And I'm sure there's others, but right now I'm in a hurry....

Lots of fav'es
Ninja Giaden (1 was the best)
Megaman 2, X4
Bionic Commando
Metroid

(alot are escaping me right now)

The worst TOMBA!

Tomba 2 was even worse. My wife played through the games and made me help her. All you do is help some moron who droped something in the woods. "OOOO I lost my baseball cap at the fountain in town can you go get it? Then I will give you one of the 5 parts of the recipie to get one of the 10 parts to the weapon that defeats the pig!"
That game just pissed me off!

Rockman series
Rockman X series
Rockman Dash series
Sonic 1, 2, 3, S&K, & Adventure series
Bionic Commando
Blaster Master
Castlevania series
Contra, Super C, & Contra III
Ninja Gaiden 1-3

Truth be told, I've been busy with Gradius II and other Konami shooters recently.

I loved Jet Set Radio, even though the universe was awfull, the game itself was so good, I couldn't let it until I had the little Iggy-like doggie.
I used to love that genre, but it's been sooo long... Even though they were too easy, I loved and will always love the first 6 Rockman (never liked anything else in the series, except maybe Rockman/Forte) and I can't wait to see my beloved Chômakaimura redone on GBA.
Among older games, there was the 2 Actraisers, Bionic Commando, Solomon's Key...
Sorry, that's all I can think of right now...

I don't know if I would consider " Jak and Daxter " a real platformer.. anyway, as for me.. Valis ranks up there, but SO MANY OTHER GAME SERIES do, too.. Bonk... Mario... Akumajo Dracula... BTW, anybody ever play " Vice: Project Doom " ? I love that game.

Damn, I just remembered Ninja Gaiden and Ghouls and Ghosts, too, from reading some of the other posts.. Like I said, TOO MANY!! ^_^

Iron D just reminded me. I also loved the Lion King on the SNES. Me and my friends were hooked on that movie, and we played the game a lot. I loved it. I was a master at that game, too! I've forgotten everything.

I just bought the much delayed "Shantae" for the GBC. It's by far one of the best games in the genre I've ever played... it's go some of the best graphics I've seen on the GBC (looks killer when played in a GBA), it's got some interesting varity in gameplay, and Shantae looks so cute when she turns into a monkey...
