when I was interviewing the V.P. of marketing (Kevin Sullivan...who's a really nice guy) at Agetec, I was trying to ask about SNK liscences and things...he wasn't really interested in answering. basically he said he couldn't comment on future titles, just what was immediately ready for release. But then I spoke to the lady making the appointments first name was yukiko...that's all I know), and she was saying that they had been having difficulty contacting people regarding the SNK liscences because of the restructuring. She mentioned that Playmore was acting like they weren't really the ones to deal with it.
BTW I was asking about the potential of KOF 2000 or 2001. but obviously 2000 can't come over anyway since sega has stopped 3rd party releases in the US -_-
so I don't know how relyable her info is...but it was interesting to me to hear that they tried, but were held back by lack of organization within the company...I was hoping this would be the new-improved SNK.
thought yall might be interested.

Damn, so it looks like 2K won't make it here after all, huh...
Thanks for the info.

I wish you had asked why Agetec made all those wacky censoring decisions in their US distributions of SNK games, like removing references to alcohol in KOFDM99. Was that their decision or SNK's?

Agetec has sworn up and down that the games were like that when they got them. You will note that they use the same SNKglish text present in the arcade.

I don't think Agetec did KoF99DM. I beleive that was purely SNK. Looking at the game's packaging, I don't see any Agetec logos. Just SNK.

Oh! Dream Match 1999! The DC '98 port! Yeah, that was before Aruze bought SNK and pulled them out of everywhere but Japan. Just a week before I was going to get my hands on Last Blade for Neo Geo Pocket Color, I might add. Stupid Aruze.

The cuts were present in the arcade games, so it was SNK's decision to remove the blood from LB2, Kings drinking opening, Whip's Gun, and Mai's bounce. Thought it'd be bad for US gamers and would get media attention...
(Tries not to laugh as he types that...)

yeah it's weird that they do that stuff...it's still rated teen (as far as I recall), they may as well include it. Oh well, maybe Playmore won't censor as much.

Sega stopped the 3rd parties from releasing games?

Why would it not be reliable if the info came streight from Agetec?
about game editing: Agetec didn't remove stuff from the games. The games are the same as SNK gave to Agetec. Also, Agetec said that SNK said that future games wouldn't be edited like that.
Anyone know the publisher/address for HK KoF comics? Anyone know a news server that can access the KoF newsgroup?

well, while she did work for Agetec, I don't know *who* she was within the company, so that's why I can't stand 100% by it (thus my only posting it in here and not on my site...). but she seemed to know what she was talking about...
anyway, yes, sega has stopped 3rd party releases in the US. to SEGA USA the Dreamcast is dead. looks like we'll all have to import after all eh?
