This game looks original as all hell, while I doubt this will be the Next Big Thing in fighting games, I think it will definitely make an impact in a way that Midway hasn't done since MK2.

I'm not sure how well any of this is going to gel but it looks like the people creating the game are trying at least. While the backgrounds look nice the news that you're stuck fighting in a clear bubble in the middle of the room is discouraging. Is there any other 3D fighter left out there that doesn't let you interact with the environment? The new fighting and combo system sounds... different. The combo system sounds like it could degenerate into hit, hit, change button, hit, hit, change button, hit, hit if the programmers aren't careful. Also, does all this talk about fighting stance switches and whatnot mean that the characters will play differently from each other? Never mind that half the cast was played by the same damn guy in a ninja suit, the thing that really hurt MK was that all the normal moves were more or less identical in presentation, priority, and damage. For example, Chun-Li and Hugo may both have a crouching fierce punch but there's a world of difference between what they are good for. That sort of difference has never been the case with MK. The only thing that somewhat individualized the characters were their special moves but when all the characters had projectile/lunge across the screen moves in their repertoire it turned out that you could use pretty much the same strategy for playing all the characters in the game. If this new MK can overcome these problems that plagued the previous games -as well as getting rid of dumbass animalites and nonsense like that- they may have an okay game.

I agree with you completely, so far the combo system could become a problem. But I guess it's just a wait and see kind of thing. No one is too amazingly hyped about it to get into deep detail about the E3 build. Another thing which is going to hurt this game if you ask me... MK has a large group of followers (believe it or not) just like those who love SNK fighters. So, it probably won't grab the attention of everyone except for those who are in that category, etc. Hopefully they do some damn good advertising.

Also, about the animalities and all... scrapped! Thank goodness. No babalities or any of that rubbish. They will be using Fatalities only like MK4.. and none of them will be old ones. (This means no Toasty fatality for Scorpion...*sniff sniff*). The detail to the blood and sweat sounds like a good idea (dripping off of the body and running down, etc.).. I've been longing for some more action like that since I've been playing a lot of AOF2 lately ^_^.

Non-MK fans had much, much bleaker impressions from the E3 demo. Some of the people I was working with at the show said it looked like a bad joke...

Still, at least they're trying something different. It would be cool if they could actually pull everything together, but I have a hard time getting excited about Mortal Kombat anymore.

I'll rent the game just because it seems like their trying...

[rant about the style switching]
This idea sounds cool but it's probably going to end up retarded for the following reasons. I could see maybe switching stances like if the character uses Tae Kwon Do they'd go from Kim's stance to Jhun's stance giving them a different attacks. And what's up with the button changes? In every other game with real fighting styles they punch is always punch and kick is always kick... there should be no "debate" whether or not to standarize them! Now I could see maybe Tae Kwon Do (yes, same example sorry) having more kicks then punches... but that does mean the set up should go:

it should go:

and it should be assumed we'll figure out HP is reall a kick button... how the hell are we suppost to string together combos when we can't even figure out what button we're hitting?

I enjoyed MK 1+2 and that was it - I hated every other version after that. I'll wait before I judge this one

It's probably going to suck (all of the proposed new gameplay concept seems way too ambitious for their own good), but I'll still give it a chance when it comes out, via weekend rental, that is... :)

I can't say I'm a fan of MK, but some of the new ideas at least sound interesting. BTW, have any of you ever heard of " Ultra Vortek " ?
