Just a little semi-rant... ;) after following some links from the japanese Rez page I stumbled on a little bit of trivia - the guy who did the music for sonic the hedgehog is a DJ... apparently he does gigs (or maybe a one off?) for "Legend".
looks like it was over a month ago though :( p.s. anyway I think he 'lives' here: http://www.ancient.co.jp/

Nani? He's also a DJ?
This is surprising.

Whoa. Talk about video game legend. I remember back when he went by the pen name "YK-2" on the BASIC magazine.
He is, without a doubt, one of the most influential musician in video game history.
So many of today's musicians are influenced by his work on Ys... every good midi sites have his songs in various remixes.
I wish he would return to doing more game music!
Did you know Koshiro was apprentice to the legendary Hisaishi Jo? (The music director of most Miyazaki movies, from Nausicca, Laputa, Princess Mononoke, etc) That's some prestige.

Yuzo Koshiro is definitely among my favorite video game musicians. I read an interview that he did with EGM magazine, where he talked a lot about his background as a musician.
At one point he mainly did classical style music, but he starting going to clubs a lot in his later teen years, and these clubs were what influenced Yuzo's Streets of Rage soundtracks. He also stated that the SoR was perhaps the soundtrack that he was most fond of. So I'm not surprised at all that he's a DJ.
I want my SoR4. NOW!!!

Yuzo Koshiro also did music for the movie based on Ico.
...
Of course, we ripped his music from Shenmue when doing it ^_^.

I like his Ys music best.. And, call me crazy, I actually prefer some of the music from Streets of Rage 1 over 2 ( the boss theme and the music from the " boat " stage are most notable )

Y's Book 1 and 2 soundtrack is one of the best game soundtracks ever. You can tell the minute you put the CD-Rom in a TG-16/Duo that the music just rocks. Truly the first game to show the grand potential of the CD format....
(Now Falcom, gimmie a new Y's already...)

I'm split on which SoR soundtrack I like best, but on the subject of the two themes you just spoke of, I totally agree with you. The remixes were good, but they weren't the same. The same can be said about the games' intros. SoR1 STILL has the best intro of the three of them.
The music from Ys is from Koshiro's classical period. I've never played Ys, but the fact that Koshiro did the music alone makes me want to play them.
