I'm currently in the middle of an expansive job search, and once I do get a job, I'll be saving up for a GC, at least two controllers (I'll eventually get 4), a memory card, and WMX8. The most recent WWE game I have is Smackdown! 2 for the PS1. I've had it for over a year, and I'm STILL playing it regularly.
As for created characters, I personally like to create whatever wrestlers that didn't make it into the game. For instance, Brock Lesnar isn't in it, so he'll be one of my first created characters. My sister has a bunch of original created characters in SD!2 that she'll try to recreated in WMX8.
As for the developer, I'm glad to see that Yukes is making this one. I like SD!2 better than No Mercy. In No Mercy, the characters models look cartoony and unrealistic, and it just annoys me that you have to grapple before you perform...say...a ST Stunner. Although you actually do grapple before performing a Stunner in SD!2, it's so quick you don't notice it.

quote: Ok, from what I've seen, the game is supposed to be released on the 11th, which is the Tues. after I get back from vacation, and I'm definately buying WMX8 for my GCN. Anyway, just curious as to if anyone else plans on getting it. My favorite thing to do is to make my own characters based on me and play 4 player matches with my friends, who make their own characters based on them. I also love to make characters based on anime and videogame characters too. I have a Faye Valentine and a Blue Mary on my WWF No Mercy game on my N64.
Yeah, I plan on getting it. I want to break someone down with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. I don't have a GC yet, but my friend has one and he's getting it too. It should be fun even though they don't have a story mode. It's too bad that they don't use the same engine as the N64 games. It should be fun though.
I must say that I personally like the engine used in the 64 games better than any of the other wrestling games. I remember some games that were over complicated, and the 64 games were better play wise than the Raw game on the X-box even.

I've never played RAW for the X-box, but I heard that the only good thing about it was the graphics. I wouldn't mind playing it though.

The graphics are good, and the create-a-character mode is good, but I don't like that the coolest X-box feature (to me), putting your own music into a game, can't be used with Raw. The game also can handle a lot of characters at a time, which is good. The game takes a while to get used to. It is ok when you get used to it, but that is the problem, it is just ok. It feels unfinished.

I read that RAW 2 was gonna have the music ripping thing in it. It'll also have a full story mode too, and the nWo.

Yep, but I doubt that Scott Hall is going to be in the NWO in this game. Heck, he might not be in at all.
The SD! games were never complicated. The only way that they would take any time to get used to is if you spent all your time playing non-SD! wrestling games.
As a matter of fact, after I get a GC and WMX8 I'm saving for a PS2 so that I can get SD!4.
Oh, and if you ask me, SD! and SD!2's season mode beats the pants off of the "go straight for the belt" modes found in Raw, WM2000, No Mercy, and the oh-so-bursting-with-unused-potential story mode in SD!3.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Scott Hall won't be in RAW 2, and SM2 did have the best story mode. No Mercy comes in 2nd because they actually have a story, but the problem is that they use actual dialogue from the shows. So it's like watching the shows over again, but with different people and stuff.
I HATED SD3's story mode! To me it was such a waste of time to even put that in there. It was dissapointing with how short it was. It didn't even tell a story. SD4 should be fun. I'll probably get that sometime if I have the proper funding by then, which I probably will.

That's one of my specialties. I too, was going to definitely pick it up once I heard that it might be similar to No Mercy (which tried to do TOO much to improve on its predecessor). However, if it is going to be real similar to Smackdown, it will at least get a rental. Now, I own a copy of Smackdown 3, which I enjoy, mainly for the great create-a-wrestler mode, which just gets better with each new version of Smackdown. I don't have a problem with the Story Mode as so many people did; except for the fact it was short, it was the only Story Mode in the Smackdown series that guaranteed your created characters would go through. It also had a wonderful first-person aspect to the whole thing. Think of it as a work in progress and it won't suck as much. As for it being so short, I'm glad that it was, because one of the most whack things about No Mercy, and ESPECIALLY Smackdown 2 with those annoying meters that ran down when you skipped matches and the RANDOMLY planted Unknown moveset wrestlers, was that it took to blasted long to unlock everything w/out using a Gameshark or something like that. (Come on, who wants to pay all that earned money for a "Ho" character?) It didn't take an insanely long time to get everything for created wrestlers' movesets, so that was cool. Smackdown 4 is said to use a No Mercy aspect to unlocking things, which could be cool (provided they don't have a $500 000 worthless character again).
My main beef with the Smackdown series was the lack of "selling" moves and the admittedly crappy submission system (if they stole from Toukon Retsuden, they should have implemented its submission system where the ref DQs you after a 5 count in the ropes). Especially in Smackdown 3, the cage match outright SUCKED compared to the No Mercy version. Smackdown 3's version of the table match was also whack (wouldn't let you counter very well... basically if you were on the table you were screwed!) However, starting with Smackdown 2, I always thought the SD series had the better movesets (with options of where you can place them), with many additions from Japanese, ECW, and WCW superstars. In Smackdown 3, there was a definite improvement in the system, adding more moves to the repetoire, more slots for moves, and even the tie-up positions (they should expand on this in the next release).
While the Virtual Pro Wrestling engine that started with WCW vs The World on N64 was in most ways superior, even by No Mercy it had some definite problems. Countering, for example, outright sucked. Even if you knew the buttons, and had the timing right, they still wouldn't let you counter some times. The fact that taunting your opponent would hinder his or her opponent also was a negative factor. Smackdown had a very good idea in allowing you to "no-sell" supers by sacrifcing one of your stocked supers (you could still lose it depending on the situation), but one of the things I really want to see in WMX8 is its supposed super countering. If its anything like the VPW engine's speciaized countering that could be great. Just so as long as it gives you a fair chance to counter, like Smackdown does.
"Get it straight or get the BOOT !"
"Sakura -- you're pathetic! ... what ? I said you absolutely SUCK !!"
