Ok this is my strange my theory. You may find this to be unbelievable, or you might not. It is true that Mai has been looked down on my idiots just because of how she looks, but upon taking a close look at her personally, I find that she may be something that it seems more and more less people find value in. A virgin! Yes, that's correct. You see, Mai never would accept any man until Andy because they were all weak and she believes Andy is the only one that deserves her, but we all know how Andy is (I mean his constant training), so putting that together, it can be assumed that Mai is still a virgin. I'm not saying it IS true, just that it probably is.

More like fact. Mai simply teases Andy, but she won't give it up for anyone else but him. After all, the two are VERY close since their training days.

1. She knows where she's from, and she knows that anyone she gets seriously involved with will have to go there as well.
2. She may be a little skanky, but she's not stupid. No amount of sexiness or seductiveness will convince an ordinary man to give his life to the friggin' Shiranui clan. Andy's the only person she knows who'd even consider it.
3. She doesn't believe in casual sex; in fact, she's one of the few devout monogamists currently in KOF.
4. At the same time, however, she does have a sex drive, and no amount morality can permanently deny the most basic human urges. (Far more powerful institutions than some rinky-dink ninja clan have tried and failed miserably.)
5. None of the explanations for Andy's '00 reaction other than the screamingly obvious (they did it) make a damn bit of sense. So they did it already.
6. And no, she hasn't given up on marriage. But Andy still has a number of emotional issues to get through (not the least of which is having to put the responsibilities of the clan ahead of KOF), plus there's the little matter of agreeing on the wedding ceremony, so it's not happening anytime soon. And forcing Andy's hand would simply ruin the relationship...assuming that he'd even let her do that.
7. In the meantime, she's young, she's beautiful, she has her health, she has lots of wonderful friends, and she's part of the greatest fighting tournament in the world. When life is that good, why be in a rush to get anywhere?
So there you have it. Really isn't that complicated when you think about it.
Same deal with KOF '98, BTW, but that's an argument for another time. (Like, when hell freezes over.  )
