It happened on May 4, the day after Spiderman's movie release. A lot of companies, including Marvel and DC, put out free issues of some of their comics. I picked up a Tomb Raider and Ultimate Spiderman, and I found that I loved U.Spiderman a lot. Its a neat retelling of the origin story, and has some interesting ties to the film version. I tend to like retellings of classic stories.

Anyone else get involved with the Free Comics day?

Free comics? Why was I not informed? I just missed out on my chance to get free comics! Question: why did DC also give away free comics when Spider-man is a Marvel comic?

Was that a National offer? Or was it a local thing on SA? I think i saw a poster on fiesta 16 about heroes and fantasies giving out stuff but could not go to check it out.

Ah... I read about the event in the
newspapers on the day itself, but I was too
busy so I couldn't leave the office :(

Hmm, and is this going to be an annual free
giveaway event, or is it just for this year?
IIRC, I don't remember anything like this previously...

It was an industry wide movement to expand the comic book industry.

They choose that date because a lot of people would probably want to read Spider-Man comic books after the movie (happened the same thing with Batman).

So when they get to the store they would find their spider-man comics...plus free comics from many diferent publishers to get them hooked on the medium.

Sadly, only one store in México participated in this event...and since the store is in Mexico City (too far away from where I live), I couldn't get some free comics...grr

Omar got it right. I had been keeping tabs on this since a few months back (heh, I should have said something).

But sadly, at the comic store I went to, they had a one comic-per-customer rule, and because of that, could only take 2. :(
