I just watched this today, and wow, I'm impressed. It's funny as hell, and Onizuka is one awesome teacher(he sure shows his students a new meaning of "schooling", that's for sure).

So for those of you who have seen this series already, any impressions? Can't wait for volume two...

I've seen some of the anime, read 15 volumes of the manga and seen the live action version. I realllly can't stand the anime. It's just too sloppy. The direction is typical, the music is boring and the colors are unforgivably bland. The art is nice, at least and it's not painful to watch or anything, but it's not as good as the manga. It's not terrible, but it's uninspired and doesn't have the spirit and life of the original story. Many of the emotional scenes are better executed in the manga and I've noticed a number of (important) things that they left out as well...and the pace is a bit too slow.
Really, if you're a GTO fan, you owe it to yourself to read the manga. Well, it's just my opinion but I didn't really like Onizuka's voice actor so much, either. The guy who did him in the live action version was better.

Do you mean the comics, anime or the TV series?

As far as I know the TV series was the most popular among the 3 as it was the one that helped gained popularity for it. The actor who played Onizuka became famous as a result.

The manga's better, huh...that's always the case. I'll have to check it out then.

Onizuka in any form is always a good thing. Just because the manga is better, doesn't mean you shouldn't watch the anime. It just means view them both if you can. I enjoy the anime quite a bit and it's great to see him in action on your screen.

Besides, the way Onizuka handles the situations he gets into is just awesome. :)

GTO is a good series with a nice rythmn of resolving the plot before it gets too angsty but still creating a lot of tension for our hero. I would recommend anyone to watch it for themselves.

Starting to read the manga myself, and enjoying it. I'd get the TV series, but I already have too much anime to get (and the Manga looks cooler).

Yes, Onizuka is a cool and fun manga. One of the better Shonen releases to come over in awhile...(Well worth checking out)

True that. Onizuka reminds me of Kintaro Oe the way he handles things

I'm checkin out manga scans of the characters...is Naoko in the anime? She looks hot!

And "Last Piece"(the ending track) owns

the live action GTO (with sorimachi - who was famous before the tv series btw) sucks. the anime version is much better. i personally love the voice actor for the anime for onizuka (the japanese guy of course).
as for the manga - its true, nothing beats the manga. although they did add a couple of scenes into the anime which were nice.

im just sad that the manga ended. it just ended at volume 25. argh!

I have the manga volume up to vol.20
(or 21... I forgot. It's under all this pile of junk in my room :)

I absolutely LOVE this series.
The stories I like the most usually involves Yoshikawa Noboru and Anko.
He's the one who's being picked on by Anko and her friends at the beginning of the series.
It's great to see how Anko changes from hating him to... well, I'll leave it at that. :)

I also like the side-story that's going on. GTO (Great Tomoko Oppai, meaning Tomoko's great boobs). It's funny and cute.

I haven't seen the anime. Saw a few bits and it seemed "okay", but I really haven't seen much. I saw the JDrama series though, and that ruled more than should be legal. It's my favourite Jdrama series to date (I put it slightly above Beautiful Life). Sorimachi (sp?) played GTO perfectly (a total walking anime character), and DAMN he's lucky to be going around with Nanako Matshushima (who did a pretty decent Fuyutski to me) in real! Lucky bastard...

BTW, is there an official english translation of the manga yet, or do you still have to hunt for it online?

Tokyopop has the rights to the manga, I think.

I have Volume 1 in my hands right now, as it was released last month. It's a very good translation, and they're doing it straight to GN which means it's coming out fast (Volume 2 this month or ealry next month).

And yes, Tokyopop is my new favorite manga company. GTO, Marmalade Boy, Kodocha, Chobits, Angelic Layer, Love Hina...So much good manga, so little funds...:P

GTO is at it's best in Manga form IMO. The rough, scribbly lines and somewhat brusque drawing style contributes nicely with those schoolyard themes...also, there's much more character and liveliness. I personally havent' seen the anime, so can't comment on that. I've seen the live action series and it doesn't hold a candle to the manga. But that's just me.

It seems a lot of you read Love Hina too....I have the complete set, but every female I've met hates it (please note- my experience). To them, Keitaro is a perverted maniac who 'accidentally' tries to score T and A on every young girl around him. Ar well. I think the manga still rawks, tho.

I wouldn't be surprised, as the manga has TONS of fanservice...especially from Naru...
