"EVEN MORE KOF2K2 RUMOURS!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!" , posted Sat 20 Apr 07:32:post reply

I heard this from my friend who read it in some chinese BBS, but he couldn't remember the URL anymore. Anyway, this is yet another KOF2K2 rumour that is spreading around, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Storyline

Similar to one of the storylines in another rumour, NESTS has been completely destroyed. This year it is Long (and the NESTS member who stands beside him in Psychic Soldier’s ending in 2k1) who is organizing the tournament in order to release the dragon spirit within Bao. They need to siphon the KOF fighters’ energy (as always) to do so.

Game System

This year Eolith will attempt a new fighting engine: A 5 VS 5 team tournament!! Basically, players must choose out of 5 characters, out of which they select 2 teams of 2 members, while the 5th member is a striker. Each round will be a 1 team VS 1 team battle.
Players will have to select the order of the members in the team and also which team will battle in Round 1 first (after which the 2nd team will battle in Round 2). Each round will last 100 seconds.

No tag will be made possible. When the 1st member loses, the 2nd member immediately carries on the battle, by rolling out forward from one side of the screen. The winner, still in the screen, will roll back, in order to create a significant distance before the actual battle continues. No extra energy will be given to the winner. The round is over when both member of the team loses.

In the event that a 3rd round is necessary (each side has one team that won against the other), the LOSING team from each side will battle out and of course the winner of the 3rd round wins the match. In the event of a draw in any round, the battle will go into a “sudden death” of 15 sec, where the 2nd member of the each team will fight again, this time without the option of blocking, and the member who successful hit the other wins the round.

The power meter can be max up to 3 levels. Each striker will take up 1 level, while a DM will take up 1.5 level and a SDM will take up a 3 level. Guard cancel with striker that juggles opponents in KOF2K will be available again, and of course will deplete 2 levels. (1 level for a Guard cancel). The power meter can be carried forward from one team to another.

Armour mode seems to be back but not counter mode. Some DM can cancel into another DM. The option of canceling normal moves into a DM is gone, and so is Wire attack. Strikers will follow the “rules” of KOF2K1 – player must be on the ground etc.

You can re-choose your players like KOF2K during player matches. The order of characters will be kept secret like KOF99 as well – You use the joystick to highlight one of the 5 members, and use A to select Team 1 1st member, B to select Team 1 2nd member, C to select Team 2 1st member, D to select Team 2 2nd member. Striker is the one left unselected.

Teams (this year there will be 10 teams of 5 members)
1. FF/AOF team: Terry, Andy, Joe, Ryo, and Robert(A surprise merger of the 2 leagues!)

2. All female team: Mai, Mary, King, Hinako, Yuri(Not surprising, since the roster rotates among the characters within the game as usual)

3. K’ team: K’, Maxima, Whip, Kula, Diane(With Lin gone and Kula on K’ side, it is no surprise Diane should be in this team as well)

4. China team: Athena, Kensou, Bao, Chin, Xiangfei(I suppose Bao is still around to justify the story of the dragon spirit)

5. Saisyu team: Saisyu, Benimaru, Goro, Shingo, new character(Saisyu takes over Kyo as leader of the Hero team. Not a very interesting combination, but the new character…could it be the girl from one of the KOF games that spots a green shirt?)

6.Korean team: Kim, Jhun, Chang, Choi, May-Lee(The complete Korean team. Nuff’ said)

7. Kyo and Iori team: Kyo, Iori, Seth, Vanessa, Ramon(It will be quite a surprise and pleasing to the KOF fans that Kyo and Iori are finally on the same thing after so many years and they somehow managed to settle their disputes. I suppose the rest stayed on because of Kyo?)

8. NESTS team: K9999, Angel, Yamazaki, Billy, new character(Now this team is STRANGE. K9999 and Angel should be after the dragon spirit with the hope of reviving NESTS, but on the same team with Yamazaki and Billy??? I do not see the rationale behind this – probably Eolith just want to dump some characters together which does not make much sense…)

9. IKARI team: Leona, Ralf, Clark, Heidern and new character(The same old IKARI team)

10. Lin’s team: Lin, leading a team of 4 more new characters(I suppose they comprise of the members in his victory pose in KOF2K1)

Mid-Boss: Long and the NESTS woman
Long will be fight after match 3, with no special attacks like 94 Rugal. But after defeating 6 teams, he and the NESTS woman will appear as mid-boss, with each taking on one team. They use no strikers.

Boss: ??????????????
Apparently somebody who is stronger than Long and able to siphon some of the dragon spirit as a fighting energy??? (I am only guessing this....)

Personal comments

It seems to me that this is a more plausible rumour than the other rumours that are floating around in this point in time. The new team roster seems to be possible, retaining all the KOF2K1 members except Takuma and Foxy (dead), and most of the new characters are returning members such as Jhun, Takuma, Yamazaki and Billy, plus the fact that the non-returning new members are sprites that have been around in KOF (in victory poses of others).
The new system seems rather innovative and it is too possible, judging by the fact that KOF2K1 does seem to have intentions to make KOF2K2 a 5 VS 5 match (taking out Jhun and replacing him with May-Lee). The endings of KOF2K1 seem to justify the new roster as well. (e.g. K' and Kula, Saisyu returns etc)

Personally, I think this rumour makes much more sense than others, although I suspect Eolith would not actually take such a new innovative game system, given its admin and manpower problems. Plus it is too much of an old KOF2K1 (with 38 out of 40 members returning) comeback. Well, lets just see how things turn out. I am keeping this rumour and we shall see how it turns out later.

5 on 5 is in interesting idea, but it all sounds sort of wacky...

if you told me "make up teams using almost all the KoFers from 2k1 and add in new ones" I'd have an easier time with 5 slot.

Although I would have taken the more impressive route with my rumor and said new teams are:

FF team: Andy-Terry-Joe-Mai-Mary
AoF Team: Ryo-Yuri-Robert-King-Takuma
Female Team: Chizuru-Hinaka-Kasumi-Moe-new character (the previously called "Maya Botsu")

see? doesn't that sound more interesting? Not only does it add an extra team, they're also all pre-existing characters, with the exception of course of Moe (is the GBA sprite even usable in the arcade version?) and "Maya Botsu"

^_______^ I likey the rumors, these fun to comment on...

I love rumors! Even if we're in April, and the game won't be out before at least 6 mounth.
This one is more reliable than the other rumor, but... hum....5 characters? when many fan want to come back to the original team of 3 characters?
And the poll on the site of Eolith mentionned 3 leaving and 3 returning... Foxy died anyway, Takuma leaves once again, and who is the 3rd one? (I thought many would vote against Hinako or Chin...) And once again, what is Xian Fei doing in the Psycko Soldier Team? if they go 5 on 5, they should put Kaworu (the evil Athena fan).
The Kyo Team and K9999 team make no sense, but Iori team in 2001 didn't either.
Well, fun rumor, I like it! Although I would prefer rumors about what's going on in Capcom's secret lab... (The new 3D fighting game? A 4th Street Fighter? A NEW VAMPIRE?)

Ah.... It's a good thing Guilty Gear XX should be out the 23 may, it will help us wait autumn...
Moe is not a Playmore Character, she's a pathetic creation of Marvelous with an even more pathetic name (those who have played Segagaga know why), and I hope she will never be in any game again.

Dr Baghead: Yup...that would make the game more interesting for sure...it would please even more FF / AOF fans by making the teams more complete...but I really doubt Eolith can handle more than 50 characters...The artworks, the bug check...50 should be something workable for them...

Iggy: Well the 3 Vs 3 concept has been used so many times (even by Capcom) that it probably wouldn't bring fans surprises as well...But then who knows?? This is just a rumour you know!! ^_^

5 on 5? Damn, as if the 3 on 3 matches in MVC2 weren't boring enough...that concept may sound interesting, but it would just fail in execution.

Any rumors that the next KOF will have a better artist? I don't want to relive Yuri the Barbarian again...

Kyo and Iori teaming up and it's NOT a world threatening crisis? WHAT iS THE WORLD COMING TO!?

I wonder if the new character on the Saishu team is one of the Kusanagi's in KoF Kyo...that would make more sense than Syo(ProtoKyo) and Kyoko(ProtoShingo)

I really like the 5 on 5 concept, because I could have a complete FF team...(Terry, Andy, Joe, Mai and Mary) and AoF team (Ryo, Robert, Takuma, Yuri, and King). I know that isn't what the rumor said, but I'd like that....I know someone else mentioned that...Baghead I think. Anyways, it would be interesting to see Kyo and Iori on the same team. I think 5 on 5 could work, and I definately don't want to go back to 3 on 3. 4 on 4 is good enough, but 5 on 5 would be interesting, especially the way that the rumor seemed to work it all out....anyways, we'll see....

5 on 5?! Give me a break! I hated it enough when Capcom felt the only way to improve on games like Project Justice and MvC 2 was to up the team roster by 1 character (Though it didn't hurt PJ near as much as MvC2.). Supers can be canceled into another super! God more SF EX nonsense! It was bad enough with the few characters that could do that crap in KOF 2001. Armor mode returns! Oh yeah, I really missed Armor mode after all the crap Chang was capable of in KOF 2000.

The only good news to all that is that there's still no tagging and the wire system is removed.

It's easy to beleive that Lin will be teaming up with the dudes from his win pose, and that Saisyu will be leading a team after taking on Shingo at the end of 2k1 (Kyo was a little harsh, don't you think?). Not sure whether the 5-on-5 system will go down too well. Even though everybody's gonna try and diss me to the ground for saying this, I like the idea of tagging, and I reckon double-team moves would be a pretty cool feature. BTW, I don't know if you guys have heard this already, but it's confirmed that there'll be a team of entierly new characters. I think they're called the theft team, or something like that. Also, Rick from Real Bout will be a playable character, and I'm not sure if this is confirmed, but apparently Mai, and the whole AOF team are getting booted off. Personally, I'd rather have the opportunity to master a set of new characters with cool designs, original fighting styles and interesting storylines than fight with a bunch of crusty, over-used geezers. It would be good to see Billy, Rick and Yamazaki return, though.

Y'know what I mean?

Yes, and I heard that in fact, Mai will be the hidden boss, leading a new evil "oversized breast team" wanting to rule the world to oblige every one to get breast implants. Yes, even you Hotaru. What? you are 6 years old during KOF? no big deal. And your pet will too.

Yamazaki isn't supposed to be dead after 97? he was a ghost in KOF 2000, didn't he? (I'm not sure, I never used him...). If they had to copy CvS that much, they should have revived Vice instead, and make her as cool as she was in KOF 98, not that stupid teckel Capcom did.

This is so false. I offer you the evidence here:

quote:

No tag will be made possible. When the 1st member loses, the 2nd member immediately carries on the battle, by rolling out forward from one side of the screen. The winner, still in the screen, will roll back, in order to create a significant distance before the actual battle continues. No extra energy will be given to the winner. The round is over when both member of the team loses.

If the game is supposed to be on MVS like it was already announced, there is not enough RAM for 4 full characters AND 2 strikers to be in memory at once without MAJOR animation cuts. You've noticed, ever since KoF99 that strikers alone have caused some minor cuts to the character animation. This is why 2k1 is so poorly animated, because it has to accomodate having 6 strikers in memory at once. Anyway, the only way the characters could stay intact is if the game reloads the characters into RAM every time the second character pops in. But for that to happen the screen would have to blit out (reset) while the memory is restructured, or the entire screen would turn to garbage or worse. Thus it wouldn't be a continuous round like this so-called "report" says.

If they do allow it, and this is true... KoF2k2 will look like shit, I guarantee. So you'd better hope it's false.

Gojira, that is one of the most sensible arguments I've heard on these Kof2k2 rumors in a while!

Hmmmm....In any case, when the 1st member is defeated, and the 2nd member rolls in...there are at most 3 characters on screen (the defeated member lying on the ground, which could disappear after a while like MVC and the likes)...I don't think strikers can be excuted during rolling, so the RAM can still handle it smoothly, I think...

Anyway, it is just a rumour. Good to see people thinking about it and make comments/question about its possibility. I do not think Eolith can handle 50 characters as well, but we shall see.

As for a 5 Vs 5 match up, I do not forsee any problems yet, since in any one point it is still 1 vs 1 (with striker) in the old fighting fashion...innovation is what drives things going, and it is nice to see innovation in games...but unfortunately we will have to find time to adopt to the new game engine and we should decide later if we like the innovation...Personally the concept alone sounds cool to me.

K9999 and Angel should be after the dragon spirit with the hope of reviving NESTS, but on the same team with Yamazaki and Billy??? I do not see the rationale behind this – probably Eolith just want to dump some characters together which does not make much sense…)

Sweet rumors
well if this is ture (or some of it) , then we will see somthing interisting.
and billy and yamazaki are in K9999999 team do make sense , geese had send Billy and yamazaki to revive that dragon spirit and he wants that power as usually.
it sound so pretty.

Geese is already dead. I just hope they don't bring in Orochi matters in to complicate the storyline, then give a confusing ending. Could the new character be Wolfgang Krauser? Hmmmm....

I think you're getting RAM confused with the video memory. IIRC Video memory stores the graphics that you see on the screen. RAM stores the graphics to be transferred into video memory. Loading something from RAM into video memory is instant. Loading something from ROM to RAM isn't, and requires processor, so the screen has to go blank while it happens. It's brief but it has to happen. Nowadays processors are fast enough to make the load time into nothing so it's not an issue anymore, but remember this is 10-year-old hardware we're talking about.

Well, enough. You already know my opinion.

Hmmmm I think I am really getting confused...I am not too good with the technical terms...one thing for sure is that Eolith should abandon the MVS hardware for KOF2003 coz it wouldn't work well anymore.

Not abandon; but improve... that would be cheaper and could keeps thing running good for a while...

Why not heed the HNG64????? If it could handle 2D....

I would like to see more SNK games on beefier hardware. it's good that they kept the system alive for so long, but considering they only made like 500 English KoF carts (I see it's AES, but still)....
If they put a set of popular games like KoF on HNG64 I'd think a good amount of Arcade owners would buy one. Even an upgrade for MVS would be nice.

Question about the NeoGeo 64 system. Mainly, what is it? I played Fatal Fury WIld Ambition at the arcade and it was cool, but I still don't know what the system is. Is it like an N64 kind of system or what?

Doubtful. The arcades in my neighborhood don't care about KOF or SNK for that matter. There are 3 malls here and all the fighters here have NAMCO or CAPCOM on the cabinets. It's pretty much the reason I don't bother with going to arcades anymore. I got sick of seeing nothing but Tekken and MvC 2 everywhere I go.

Bah! I got a better arcade at home anyway with all the games I've collected over the yrs.

More speculation...

However, this year game will make around 700 Megs. The MVS it's not a eternal system, but we don't know the global power of the hardware. Also, I said the striker system will be the same as 2K1. True and false! In 2K2, you only choose 1 striker, but when you call him, this will cost 1 stock of the super meter. You can have a maximum of 3 stocks, and all DM have SDM version. Plus, some Super Move will only be SDM. The wire attack and the super cancel are also maintain.

Next, lets check the team:

Hero Team:
No problem with that team. We're all agreed.

Osaka Team and Saisyu Team:
Many of you have problem with Moe Habana. "She's not fitting in KOF and she's not an SNK product." Sorry but Marvelous Entertainment (developpers of KOF EX: Neo Blood) made the game in collaboration with SNK. So, SNK done their approval about her. Some "specialists" even said KOF EX is probably the real KOF '98 tournament (but I'm not sure about it because of the death of Geese and is time line). And for those who said: "She don't have any good moves!", changes can be make. So, I will talk right now about the Saisyu Team. Saisyu will be definitively back in a team with Shingo. Also, they want to put an other student of Saisyu (in this case, SHO, even if he's a prototype version of Kyo) but this was not sure at 100%.
In the final product, maybe the Osaka team and the Saisyu team will merge into one team (Saisyu, Benimaru and Shingo). Kyo will become an edit character like the past and everyone said Goro is not coming back. I remember my cousin was 100% sure about something: "The Osaka team will welcome a new teamer, a girl with some sort of experience in KOF." So, Moe Habana is probably the choice, or maybe CHIZURU!

Fatal Fury Team:
Someone said Alfred has only 3 moves. I'm sorry but Alfred has 4 special moves and 2 DM, and he will get a new SDM: the Hexa Drive from the Real Bout: Dominated Mind game on the Playstation.

Art of Fighting Team:
Takuma will definitively be out this year.

The Military Team:
Probably the same, but some speculation are made about the departure of Heidern, or even Leona (long shot).

All Women Team:
No problem (except for the change between Kasumi and Hinako).

Psycho Soldiers Team:
Lin will be in this team even if they are a bunch of kids, and Chin is out.

International Team:
It's confirm, May Lee will lead a team this year and Baedal is one of the member. Gai Tendou was a big subject of discussion and he's considered to join. Also, the developpers wants to put an American fighter in this team and serious discussion was make about Duke. But 2 all new characters was also a subject of discussion. Even Kasumi was considered to join this team in the first moment of the project.

Korean Team:
No change, except for the return of Jhun Hoon.

Vengeful Team:
Eiji and Billy are pratically confirmed (even if the Eolith contest is not over). They want their revenge on Iori, the Sakazaki and the Bogard. Concerning Mr.Big, my cousin tells me: " One of the big shot of Southtown will lead this team!" In my mind, this guy is Mr.Big (because of "big shot"), but it can be Krauser also. Finally, some of you said Yamazaki has nothing to do with this team. But in theory, with his kind of behaviour, he has nothing to do with his '97 team either...

Iori Team and NESTS Team:
If Kyo become an edit character, Iori will probably become one as well. Then, what will happen to the 3 other members. Ramon will probably be taking out. So, Seth and Vanessa can join the NESTS team. Let me explain. When my cousin tell me about the NESTS team, he said: "The NESTS team will be make up of K9999, Angel and two old NESTS agent to rebuild the cartel." Strong discussions was made about the return of Krizalid and his role in this team. But if Kriz and Misty are rejected, maybe Seth and Vanessa will be put in this team.

Bosses:
No change except I make some mistake about the striker attack. Ran does the Hunting Air type move; Chitto does the Vanishing Rush type move, and Sai does the Bear Hug.

I'm not agreeing or denying with this info, just throwin it out there. Do with it what you will.
