I just played KOF2001 on my PC last night. It is not bad. I expected more but owell.

It runs good on neorageX, but it has to be in full screen mode all the time. It is kinda annoying at times.

Here is a question though,

For any of you out there who has already play KOF2001, is there any reason to put any of the teammate as a striker? Personally, I rather to use all of them to fight.

Yeah, the game's pretty bland. And the roster isn't that great. Other than Mei-Li and Foxy.

I don't know,I think the KOF formula has totally lost it since 2K.

adds overall strength...
adds extra Super stock so a "Real" Max SDM can be used.

More strikers = shorter super gauge + SDM usage.

If you're better off without supers then you don't need to set any strikers.

That's debatable. I personally hate Foxy with a passion and I'm not that crazy about Mei-Li either. I'm also very happy that Strikers are more restricted than they were in KOF 2000.

As for the original topic, the more characters you use the less defence you have and overall damage you can do. The boss battles are damn near impossible to win with 4 man teams (Since you take hits like a wuss. This also applies to the weak damage you inflict on them.). A 1 man team with 3 strikers grants you far more damage capability plus your defense is at it's highest. As stated before, your super meter is also very short and you can carry a total of 4 super stocks, whereas a 4 man team can only carry 1 super stock and the super meter is very long. You also can kiss SDMs goodbye as well.

I liked Angel a lot, her chain system is deep and fun, but maybe too complex for my begginer skills in KOF. Anyway, I'm not playing to be a pro, I just want to have fun, and I found in her a very original character, hard to use, and powerful in some ways. The same as Maki in CvS, I think...

Again, thanks Toxico, without your FAQ this would have been harder to me...

YES! Angel is hard to use.

Angel's controls are unique and innovative. True, chain series attacks have been around a while, but I've not seen a single char's that was so deep outside of a non-chain game.

I have question though. Has anyone else noticed the controls and general skill level to be a little tighter this time around? Getting the cancels and moves off is different slightly. Some moves are harder to do seemingly, like RyokoRanbuus, but K999's Raging Storm style inputs are really easy. :\

The timing on Athena's Psycho Nine is just infuriating until you finally pin it down wit ha lot of practice. The Victory Rave wasn't this hard to do, nor was the Neo Rave in MOTW. And I've managed to get Iori's new SDM link off of the DM Maiden Masher all of twice.

Maybe it's just me. I thought I had decent controller skill, but I'm starting to rethink that.

In order for the game to be playedd with Vanessa and Ramon; I mean, to play well with a character holding a button (in KoF 98&99 they kind of "slumped" when you hold a button) they changed some aspects of the controls... in fact I have gotten MUCH more acurracy on 2000 and even better on 2001; but as pointed, there are moves that are just hard to landle and/or interrupt

There are some new buffering methods; they are explained on a combo FAQ of '2000 that someone happened to write ;)

In case it hasn't been revealed, Iori's SDM follow-up to the Maiden Masher is QCFx4+AC; not QCFx2+AC as it was previously stated.

Yeah, I've noticed certain DMs are harder to pull off this time as well.

Hmm as for the controls for Kof2001, I think
that they're the same as Kof 2000's
controls. Maybe they're harder on the
keyboard? ^_^;;

One more benefit of strikers is that you can
choose different strikers to use for
different situations (anti-air, counter etc.)

I usually play as Angel + 3 strikers, or
Angel + Foxy + 2 strikers.

Mmm... Foxy + King striker = Comboable Honey Bee >.<

Indeed; there are way more harder motion inputs this time around (I am very glad by that)... but I have seen some unusual unacurracies on the movelist on the net... may be is time to put the cards on the table and show that there are no green bananas to big monkey daddy.

I can't see why they couldn't make the followup a separate super. And QCFx4? That's ridiculous.

Doesn't matter though, Kim owns everyone anyway. Close LK LK foot stomp Kuusajin any super = Buh-bye.

In fact; I believe the controls have improved a little; in 2K Lin could not do for the world a down back C, fwd + A you had to use some buffering methods; now you can do db, fwd + A without problem; and you have less time to input it if you compare it with 2K

X4? Wow, that's a tumb hurting motion. And way too motion heavy, really (Should of made it and )

As a whole I'm disapointed in the supers for KOF2k1, though I do like them toning it down a bit. The lack of a SDM for DM is annoying, and also that certain supers have dissapeared (and many characters only have one DM). Kyo is a big example of this, as he only has his Serpant Wave super...(Which irks me, cause I love hsi Final Showdown one). And Iori only has his Maiden Masher as a DM...-.-

That's true, but at least they gave him a new game by allowing him to cancel the first and second hits of hit AoiHana with any of hit moves including his DM. It's really satisfying to combo crossup j.f+LK, s.FP, f+LP, qcb+HP x2, Maiden Masher. >:)

I like Kyo's new fire chain enders too, but I miss the 182 Shiki DM. That was my favorite DM of Kyo's even if it wasn't as useful as the others.

Some of the new supers are pretty cool, like Iori's followup (BADASS) and Kyo's mock Maiden Masher.

Ohh, that's a neat trick...To bad I'm scrubby enough to suck at Canceling (Why I tend to rely on DM's and SDM's more often than not...). Why I wish he had his 2k DM back (or at least the one for the road blast).

Kyo's new flame punches rock, I just need to get the time down on them. but as I said, one DM really doesn't work for Kyo. Especially since I relied more on the other DM's more than the Serpant Wave.

It is badass, as I cringed when Iori pulled it on me during one match. I was hurting after that (It's a perfect SDM for Iori though).

haven't pulled of the Shin Yuri Satsu yet, though I'm going to work on it. Still love how Yuri plays in this game, as she has every move that I love. Her Victory art, though, is beyond awful...Just horrid, horrid, HORRID art that makes me want to cry.

I couldnt even touch kyo anymore without final showdown anymore.. Im just not good at adjusting to it.... My uses of the serpent wave stink.... since i usually go for the sdm version for the protection only to pull off the dm 80% of the time. Though i really like the way Iori has to do his SDM... since u dont have to risk 2 stocks at once trying to hit the other guy. I do find k9999' to be a lot of fun to play.... guess thats not a good thing where his dm's hurt like hell and they are quick to come out.... i think the motion for his sdm is TOO easy....

I like the game overall.... save the crappy, washed out bg's in some stages... especially brazil.... its just pathetic.... u would have been better off taking monaco from kof 97' and recoloring it to a different time of day....

Yes, that was my rection upon first seeing it. It makes me not want to play Yuri in this game, even though I love her all to death (and she's one of my favorite SNK characters). This just urks me greatly, and almost tanks KOF 2k1 for me right there...

But yeah, the other Kyougen guys are okay. But that's KOF 2k1 art for you, some of it hits, and some of it misses widly.

Yeah,I hate Eolith for having such weird and sometimes ugly art. They ruined some of the characters........

My poor little Yuri.......

Didn't Nona just do the concept art, not the in game victory poses and stuff? Or was he just the in game artist?

While I'm not fan of the style used in the concept art, it's at least consisitant and has a cute Yuri so I'm not going to get upset with the artist. The ingame art, though...

Nasty beyond words. The art is so horribly weird and disproportionate, they everytime I see it, it makes me want to quit the game. That and the god awful music (sans Psycho Soldier's theme and half of the NESTS theme).

Eolith had better get some new musicians and in game artists. If Nona made the art in the game more like his promotional art, it would've been a million times better.

It also kinda seems to me like he tried to give the characters a strange, african appearance (large noses and lips). Naturally, the only one that the style remotely works on is Seth (who strangely doesn't have as large lips as others). Check out Ralf's victory picture for a good example.

On those points we DO agree.
