If by "interesting" you mean "exactly like a half dozen PC games, but with that you have to buy an extra $100 in hardware to play" then yes...

That's definitely a cheap shot, man. I'm quite sure that's not what he meant.

The FF Job system (being able to change class freely and have a secondary job) has definitely not been done before in a MMORPG, and there's still a lot about the game that has yet to be revealed.

I somehow doubt that you've been keeping up with the details judging from your attitude toward the game, either.

Don't be an ass.

Sorry, sorry. I just had a mean streak just then. It comes by every couple hundred forum posts. Yeah, the FF job system is something new, but honestly I feel angry that it isn't being implimented in another FFT-like game, instead of one of these MMORPGs that piss me off so much. Not my genre, nosiree...

When first hearing things about the game, I wasn't that interested, but it looks like it's shaping up in some very interesting ways. I really like the fact that the six job classes are basically the same as the six different characters in the first Final Fantasy. That is really cool. I also think that the game looks beautiful, and the party and alliance system sound like they will work well. Of course, playing the game lends new opinions, but I don't know if I'll ever get to play it. Of course, they're have been rumors about FFXI going multi-platform, so if that does come about, then I may pick it up. My only problem is paying to play the game. I hate that. That's the only thing that sucks, and why I never picked up Ultima Online, though I've been tempted to. Oh well, I hope FFXI turns out great for all of those with a PS2 and the money to play it. :)

Mmmhh, definitely a cheap shot...
God knows that I hate those online RPG's, I hate the fact that my beloved FF series turns into this...
But man, even I can accept when a game looks interesting. The announced features are really neat, the job system and, clan alliances, the facial and corpral expressions got me interested.
I think the game deserves a little respect at least...

That martial artist job sounds sweet...

I'm sure Square will include some form of offline play. I figure they want to sell as many copies as possible, so why not cater to everyone, both online and off?

I think it's supposed to be 100% online. It interested me until they announced the battle system, now I could care less. Still, they haven't even announced the HDD yet......And are people going to be willing to pay for the HDD, the modem, and the service? It's a steep uphill climb for Square...

Just because it implements facial features, clan alliances, etc, doesn't mean users will use them. I'm worried that they won't and people will just wander around on their own and not communicate with others. Users make or break the MMORPG, and...they're users. I don't like users. Give me well-concieved NPCs any day of the week.

I agree. In general I don't get along with English-users (not you guys :P) on online games. I tend to stick around the Japanese section of them. In general, I'm not into online games. I was hooked on UO for awhile, but eventually had no time to play it. I play Diablo 2 once in a while, but very little. I really enjoyed PSO because I got to talk with many people.

For me, it's interaction. Not just "help me do a Bloody run," but communication with others. That is why I liked PSO. I don't know about the US servers (as I said I hang around the Japanese servers), but I had so many conversations with others. About random stuff. About(back then) rumored rare items. About Sega quitting the system biz. Getting mail. People giving items and weapons when I "lost".

If FF Online turns out like that, I'll think about it (also the if the battle system is decent; I don't like the way it looks). Still all that extra cost......

Funny that you mention it, whenever i played PSO online i only played decent ganmes with people from other countries. But an odd thing happened one time, i enter to a japanese game, they talk for a while (i dont understand of course) and all of the sudden one of them says "american go away" (eeehhh??) and no, i didnt steal items or cheat.

That only happened once tho, so i musta gotten a bad apple. Or maybe they had a bad apple and they tought i was one. Bah.

Yeah, I'm not saying that all Americans are bad or anything, but the ratio...

And don't think that all Japanese are "good," either. Most of them have manners, but there are those who don't have them to...
A Japanese player stole my rare weapons before.

Yeah, thats understandable. I dont blame them tho, they probably got mugged by someone before i arrived.

I still rather play PSO than diablo 2. Speedy barbarians running around grabbing items after you killed pephisto with your hi magic find is not fun. Plus lately they hacked the server, so they whole place is going down. Grr.

I used to play PSO online (I even have a Dreamcast BBA) but more and more, it is hard to get even four people together without one of them being a cheater/PKer/item stealer. Also, everyone is armed with weapons that make even the enemies on hard not a threat (while they sure as hell are for me and my +5 raygun). I never feel like I am pulling my weight, even with characters half my level, so I get annoyed and quit.

Sounds like it could be fun... It won't be released in the US for a while though I guess ;_;. I'll have to try out the combat system myself to see if I like it.

Don't quote me on that one. I don't really keep up with FF online, so I don't have that greatest news about it.

Hmm...Wonder if the planned PC port is still in the works. Because that seems like the best way to play the game, especially with the HD/Ethernet card not avilable in NA...-.-

Speaking from casual MMORPg experience, I totally agree that users make or break the gaming experience. The best times i've had playing Everquest (I play a friends character when he has to work) is when I'm in a group of nice people, and we're talking and dropping Python/Evil dead quotes and what not. But when your group with idiots...

On another related note, what do you all think of the Ebay/Yahoo auction economy for MMORPG game items? Stuff like EQ and PSO items and characters being sold for cash always makes me laugh, since I just can't see spending real money for a video game item/character (I'd rather play the game...)
