Xbox Generations

What's this? Actual martial arts techniques & real weapons?
Character models & backgrounds still leaves a lot to be desired...
Still, might turn out to be a decent weekend rental when you have a few friends over for a laugh.

It still looks kinda like poop, but let's see how it plays.

considering these are scans from a magazine the game isn't looking too bad... I'll rent it for sure, though unless it's got a boat load of extras buying is out of the question...

I might be willing to see how it plays, but I still have a lot of doubts.

Anyone know if they have decided to switch the control scheme over to something that is not insane? Maybe one where you can have a finger over the block button and still hit the attack buttons?

Hehe... I agree with you on previous arcade MK games having the most convoluted button layouts ever (either you'd have to cut off 1/2 of your middle finger or grow a mutated thumb on the center of the palm in order to play it right... Maybe that's what Ed Boon's right hand looks like.), but since I've heard that MK5 was exclusively for the home systems, I'm guessing that button layout wouldn't be too bad (just like how all home ports of MK had better, more "sensible", button layouts than the arcade ones).
But I believe that not having a decent button layout isn't the biggest problem facing this new MK...

Our school's student union building recently got a MK2 machine put in, and I have been reminding myself of how quirky that game is. The main thing is the completely arbitrary motions for special moves, they aren't even internally consistant. It is nice to have universal foot sweeps and knockdown roundhouse kicks though. Anyway, so far it hasn't been worth my time to practice the MK series, I wonder if MK5 will be?

Sub-Zero has definitely seen better days. I liked the one with the mask better...

From the gameplay details ("when a character is hit by specific moves, they recoil in a number of different ways") it sounds like the game might play like a really sloppy Virtua Fighter with weapons.

Which is really not much like Virtua fighter at all... heh.

But anyway, we'll just have to wait and see. At least they're trying something a bit different.
