quote: when Tomb Raider came out I was unfortunate enough to be stuck in line at the EB behind a woman who was raving to the clerk how great the Tomb Raider movie was, how much is it was exactly like the games even the mansion looked like it does in the games, blah, blah, blah (the woman had the hair of a stereotype lesbian, so I assume that her love of Tomb Raider is the same as that of a young boy's)
I'm sure I had a point to that story... oh yeah, so long as people are knocked out of windows and the characters have breast there are enough morons out there so the film makes money.
Geez, guess I'm one of the few who actually liked the Tomb Raider movie. I do agree that the Super Mario Bros. movie sucked cause it was not really based too much on the game and the Street Fighter movie sucked for two main reasons (some minor ones too). The two main reasons in my opinion? Bad casting of most of the characters and an utter disregard for the character stories in the games. I mean, M. Bison/Balrog is not a good guy...Zangief doesn't work for Vega/M. Bison. Cammy isn't a part of Guile's army and a bunch of other stuff. Oh, and Guile is not the hero of the freakin' game, Ryu is (Ryu isn't my favorite character, but at least give him some respect. He's not an illegal arms dealer, nor is Ken). If they wanted to make a movie based on a fighting game that had an american hero then they could've done Fatal Fury. I'm glad they didn't, cause it would've sucked. I think a good Fatal Fury movie could be done, but not by whoever made the SF movie. That kinda stuff ticked me off. Not to mention the fact they didn't really use the costumes of the actual characters, except a little bit towards the end. I do think videogame movies can be good, but it'll be a while before a lot of them are good (also all videogame fans are way too pessimistic about them anyway). After all, it took a while for Blade and X-men to finally come out. By that I mean they were good comic book movies, and there have been very few other good ones(Superman and Batman are the other good ones I can think of, and Ninja Turtles if you count that as comic book movie). There have been a lot of comicbook movie failures. Maybe soon the videogame movies will start getting really good.

Dead or Alive strikes me as a weird choice. If I were to select a 3D fighting game, it would be Virtua Fighter, for the simple reason that I can actually envision it coming together. The characters were designed to look like actual people, and all the attacks can be done in real life; hence casting would be pretty easy. And the individual stories are also very grounded for the most part. You have the revenge quests, the clan/organization struggles, your shadowy conspiracies, and of course the guys who just want to pick up a big check and add a shiny trophy to the case.
How, praytell, would a Dead or Alive movie even work? Casting would be a nightmare (I guarantee they will not find someone with the angelically flawless looks of Kasumi or Ayane, certainly not one who can do a tenth of their moves, and don't get me started on Bass), the game's underlying plot is well on the convoluted side for most moviegoers, and...well, how exactly is this going to be any different from the zillions of other martial arts pummelfests that came before it?
Man, I dunno. This looks like one of those projects where simply coming up with an end product is going to be a challenge.

I think Hogan would make a great Bass. LOL. That one costume in DOA2 reminds me so much of Hollywood Hogan...

quote: Yeah, but Hogan is not to old now? But I really think that this it will be a CGI movie, beacause is most easy make the action scenes; and much beter if the actors are single that; good actors that not are specialized in combat and martial arts. Hogan already is old, but knows to fight very well, and I believe that today continues being thus, but Pamela donīt know much about a real martial arts fight and by more than she practices, cannot get to make good battle scenes.
Hogan still looks the part, he is wrestling in WWF now, and is still very muscular and everything. I never thought Pamela would be good for any role in a DOA movie, she doesn't look like any of them (except for certain areas, but I'm talking facially).
