Aaagh! Is he going to retire this time? I doubt it!

I think that Yamauchi has done no good for nintendo the last 5-6 years. For example: Square ask him to develop for GBA and he says NOOOO, no if you don't develop also for GC. Stupid! First assure the GBA develop, and proceed from there! Aaagh... just to think that because of his "brilliant" negotiation I won't have the SNES FF in my GBA makes me angry!

I still don't believe you. You have to be ironic. He made square go programming to PSX, instead of N64. That, and now he don't let them program for GBA. He is the best way for Nintendo to not have square games ever!!

Arg.

"Square makes Stupid Decisions" , posted Mon 25 Feb 06:21:post reply

Well.. as much a Square fan as I am, personally, I think it's more of Square's fault than Nintendo.

Interesting thing is, Square was making periodical visits to Nintendo in order to be allowed to make games for them again back up until around FF8, and things were starting to look a bit better.

Then, the Square CEO at the time- Hisashi Suzuki, made a terribly stupid mistake. He was chatting with Enix and persuaded them that Nintendo was no longer good, and that they should move over to the Sony PSX.

And as we know, Enix did. They released DQ7 on the PSX. Nintendo soon learnt about what happened behind the scenes. Square's relation got worse.

I don't have the exact details by hand, but the whole story was written by Hisashi Suzuki in the Nikkei Financial Journal about a month before his resignation.

IMO, Suzuki was never really meant for his job. He was first employed by Square (DOG was the company name back in 1980) as a part timer to do the dirty work, faking out as a company employee to hire programmers at a nasty cheap price. Sakaguchi was one of the first victims, btw. Ouch.

I might be a punching bag.

Oh, I didn't knew about that. So, this is cascade of mistakes both from Nintendo and Square.
And, Proffesor, how are the relationships between Nintendo and Square now? Is there any hope?

Is there any hope?? I hope not!!
You see, if Yamauchi is in charge of Nintendo, that will mean Square will not be programming their masterpieces for a Nintendo system! (Yeah!)
That's why I would love to see Yamauchi ruling Nintendo for many many years more! Who knows? probably he will kick Capcom and Konami out next time!
And Miyamoto would be a perfect replacement, he's getting tons of shit into his head now, he doesn't listen to his fans anymore.

"What the hell? it's a Miyamoto game and you stupids are going to play it!" -Miyamoto's thinkings (Yeah, I'm a mind reader!)
Luigi's Mansion? Mario using water to clean a city full of graffiti?? Powerpuff Zelda? What's next? A cooking sim with Samus Aran?

I figure as long as he's around the GC will never be a serious contender, since I doubt many Software companies want to deal with Yamauchi and his polcies. Especially since Sony has a much friendlier third party system to work with (You can work around coding problems on the PS2, but sometimes company poltics are harder to work around...)

Of course his succesor may toe the company line, unless they put Miyomoto in as Presdient (Who, out of everyone in the upper level of Nintendo, understands what's needed for a good system....).

What? No respect for Yamauchi-san?
Sure, most of the business decisions & comments he makes doesn't make much sense to people (not to mention downright irrating), but under his regime, Nintendo is still the largest & most profitable video game company in the world.
People might not agree with what he does, but you gotta give credit to what he has accomplished business-wise. (or not. :P)
I was afraid Nintendo might change once he retires in June, but according to the recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, it looks like Hiroshi Yamauchi will still have influence over Nintendo's business decisions even after "leaving the office"...

Was he the "genius" who decided the cart format was better for N64?

Shame that [i]he's[/] still around while Gumpei Yokoi isn't...

It *was* better for it at the time. Nintendo had an easier time stopping casual piracy than any of the CD advocates, thus they were able to make money despite not being the top system.
