I agree, Sony took the role as leader of the industry when Square announced FF VII...
Do you think that Nintendo is giving headbutts into the nearest wall? If you all remember, the CD add on for Snes was developed by Sony! Nintendo dropped the project because of the CD slow loading times... But Sony decided to enter the videogame market without Nintendo's help, and look where are they now... To think that the PSX succes would have been property of the not so big Nintendo... "
I doubt that Nintendo was headbutting the wall when Square came over. Wait, no, scratch that. Most of Nintendo probably was, but the head CEO (At least I think it was the head CEO) wasn't.
I swear, that head CEO guy is on crack. He basically said on more than one occasion that "Nintendo didn't care to have Squaresoft back." and several high level Squaresoft executives said they were pondering making games for the gameboy advance or so but Nintendo's head CEO was giving them the cold shoulder. Or... something like that. It's been a while.
Course, all of that happened quite a while after FF7, so maybe that Nintendo guy was just being real bitter at Square.
