....the exact (or near exact) moment that Sony took over the title of the leader of the gaming industry from Nintendo (I mean as far as system sales and general popularity)?

If you ask me, the balance of powere tilted to Sony the day that Square announced that FF7 was going to be on the PS instead of the N64. That's all that they needed to solidify their grasp on the videogame industry.

What do you think?

FF7 going over to Sony was the moment that Sony became a true player in the industry, but the PSX didn't bury the N64 till DQ7 was announced for the PSX. Nintendo losing Enix to Sony was the biggest death blow it could face, as DQ on the N64 would have been able to keep the system afloat (It's the #1 selling 32 bit game of all time).

But with Enix gone the N64 became strictly a first person machine, and I think any lingering third party companies quickly left or gave the N64 third tier titles..

I believe that it was just a few months from the N64 debut... the console had power and everything... but not that much marksmanship.... for every 2 great games for the N64 there where like 10 great games for PSX.... also the PSX explored more genres, like survival horror, RPG, sport, fighting; and all of them with the well know names of famous and big times companies... N64 bet was with new companies... just chaeck games like Maze and such... they are beta test to see if people like them.

Thats about right. The n64 was a poopy system, and developers got turned off because of the catridge system, but it had some great games tho.

Yeah, the N64 was the wackest system. Anyway, the only good game that I played that had it going was Paper Mario. That game was awesome!

I agree, Sony took the role as leader of the industry when Square announced FF VII...

Do you think that Nintendo is giving headbutts into the nearest wall?
If you all remember, the CD add on for Snes was developed by Sony!
Nintendo dropped the project because of the CD slow loading times... But Sony decided to enter the videogame market without Nintendo's help, and look where are they now...
To think that the PSX succes would have been property of the not so big Nintendo...

I doubt that Nintendo was headbutting the wall when Square came over. Wait, no, scratch that. Most of Nintendo probably was, but the head CEO (At least I think it was the head CEO) wasn't.

I swear, that head CEO guy is on crack. He basically said on more than one occasion that "Nintendo didn't care to have Squaresoft back." and several high level Squaresoft executives said they were pondering making games for the gameboy advance or so but Nintendo's head CEO was giving them the cold shoulder. Or... something like that. It's been a while.

Course, all of that happened quite a while after FF7, so maybe that Nintendo guy was just being real bitter at Square.
