Nintendo Reveals New Machine With Panasonic Nintendo, 1999

On 5/12/99, Nintendo announced their plans for their New Next-Generation Machine, which will be developed with Matsushita Corporation / Aka Panasonic Co, in aim to work together on "Network Appliances".   
  
This new game machine will use an IBM Processor with PowerPC enhancement, and a DVD drive developed by  Panasonic. No Official Name or Price has been released as of Yet. President of Nintendo Co's Yamauchi, and Panasonic's Morishita released specific news at the time of their reception. 
 
 
While in development under the code name Dolphin, 
The Machine's Specs goes as follows-- 
  
CPU: IBM Custom Processor with PowerPC Enhancement  
400MHZ
Memory: High Speed DRAM  
Memory Bus Speed: 3.2GB per Second
Video/Graphics: Custom LSI developed with ArtX corp.  
200MHZ 
Software Format: Panasonic DVD Technology with Enhanced copy protection

Nintendo's Next Generation machien will have a "network capability". There has been no announcement on the details.

While its software will be released in DVD-ROM format in the beginning, games may be released in DVD-RAM format in the future.

While Nintendo is working on gmaes for simultaneous release with the hardware, they have not asked any third party companies to do the same, as Nintendo has their own unique belifes in game production within the market.

Panasonic also announced plans to release a portable DVD player with abilites of Networking, playing games and digital AV capabilites, around the same time as Nintendo's Next-Generation Hardware release.

In addition, Panasonic plans to release a "Digital NetWork Appliance" with abilities to recieve Games, audio, graphics, and other media., and having a communications/network port. This machine is currently codenamed X-21.  Panasonic's Morhishita has commented that the X21 may have more addditions to it than just the network port.  
Specifics on how the portable DVD player and X21 relates to Ninntendo has not yet been made clear.
